HCSG Dining Shines at Taste of Senior Living Competition
For the past ten years, LifeSpan’s Taste of Senior Living Event combines delicious food, passionate culinary professionals from senior living communities, and a spirited competition. Chefs compete for top honors in taste, texture, and presentation, showcasing their skills and creativity.
This year, 24 teams crafted unique cultural dishes to appease all palates and create a memorable experience for an elite team of judges and over 400 attendees, including residents. The HCSG dining team, featuring regional executive chefs, food service directors, and cooks, participated for the third year, proudly representing three clients in the appetizer, entrée, and dessert categories.

When asked about the significance of Taste of Senior Living, Joe stated, “The coolest part is representing our client family and showcasing the abilities of our account managers with our support. It’s a full circle moment where multiple tiers of HCSG come together to inspire creativity and serve our community, especially the residents.”
Attendees voted for their favorite dish for the People’s Choice Award, while judges scored chefs on best appetizer, entrée, dessert, and the desired Silver Spoon Award.
Shortly after the votes were tallied, President and CEO of LifeSpan Network, Kevin Heffner, began the awards ceremony. Tavon Harris-Dezurn from Autumn Lake at Perring Parkway won Best Entrée with his outstanding Peruvian chicken dish. Tavon shared, “I haven’t competed since culinary school, so I jumped at this opportunity. I’m grateful to have won and had such a fun time. I’m definitely looking forward to next year!”
The event allowed HCSG to show how our dining teams enhance mealtimes for all the communities we serve. Tavon, along with the rest of HCSG’s dining teams, are proud to provide exceptional service to our client and resident communities, one dish at a time.
We are committed to providing an exceptional dining experience, whether at a chef competition, in a dining room, or the comforts of a resident’s room. Our team thoughtfully sources ingredients and crafts meals that appeal to diverse palates and regional preferences. Discover the difference at HCSG.com/dining.
