Keeping Resident Satisfaction Top of Mind From Unique Career Experience
Maintaining health and well-being through nutrition is a top priority at Healthcare Services Group. When serving residents, it takes a detailed dining and clinical team to provide the correct nutrition while making meals enjoyable for residents.
District Manager William Ramirez knows the importance of nutrition well, as he has had the opportunity to experience multiple roles in the clinical and dining services departments throughout his career.
William began his career as a Registered Dietitian (RD) in a rehabilitation facility. There, he saw the influence of nutrition on patients in recovery. He reflected, “I got to see first-hand the impact that my role as an RD had on residents by their health improving from the decisions I made concerning their diet.”
As time passed, William became passionate about the production and operations of the kitchen. When an opportunity to become an Account Manager with HCSG became available, he realized he could combine both passions. “I wanted to ensure we were producing high-quality meals and serving good nutrition to all our residents. I had a passion for more input on the output of what we serve in the dining department.
As William has grown through his career, now a District Manager overseeing other Account Managers throughout Los Angeles, he has come to enjoy supporting residents and his team members to provide excellent dining services.
A priority for William is to ensure that Account Managers build a great relationship with RDs. With William’s background in both roles, he explained, “One of our goals is for Account Managers and RDs to communicate about everything related to the correct diet and nutrition for residents. If a resident is concerned or does not like the food they’re receiving, the Account Manager and RD need to be aware. Building a solid relationship between these two leaders is crucial in serving the long-term care community.”
William also understands the effect of resident feedback for all team members. He said, “I think it’s important to show our dishwashers, diet aides, cooks, and anyone on our dining team the feedback we receive from residents. That way, they can understand the day-to-day impact they make.”
It’s essential to hear when the feedback is something to improve. William said, “We want to understand and hear residents out when they are dissatisfied. Maybe they’re having a bad day or do not like something that is a part of their meal. It’s our job to listen and accommodate them as best as we can.”
Because of William’s unique experience in both clinical and dining services, he has made a remarkable impact within HCSG and the long-term care community. While he is not the only HCSG team member to expand out of their comfort zone, he constantly goes beyond to ensure residents receive the best possible nutritional care.
